Reusable or single-patient adhesive

Masimo's directions say to clean the M-LNCS and LNCS DCI finger sensors (2501 and 1863) prior to reuse on multiple patients. The adhesive sensors (2320, 2514 and 2508) are labeled single patient use only; after single-patient use, discard the sensor.

Handheld pulse oximeter

Pacific Biomedical also sells the handheld Masimo 9216 Rad-57 kit with SpO2, which measures SpO2, pulse rate and perfusion index; other kits are in Masimo pulse oximeters.

Clinic and care site Masimo questions

How do we clean a reusable M-LNCS or LNCS DCI sensor between patients?

Per Masimo's directions, remove the sensor from the patient and disconnect it from the patient cable, wipe it with a 70% isopropyl alcohol pad or mild detergent, and let it dry thoroughly before placing it on a patient. If low-level disinfection is required, use a 1:10 bleach and water solution, wipe again with sterile or distilled water, then dry with a clean cloth or gauze pad. Do not use undiluted bleach or any cleaning solution other than those recommended, because permanent damage to the sensor may occur.

Are these Masimo sensors made with latex?

No. Masimo's directions for the M-LNCS and LNCS DCI sensors and for the M-LNCS and LNCS adhesive sensors mark them as not made with natural rubber latex.

How much monitoring time does one adhesive sensor provide?

Masimo's directions for LNCS and M-LNCS adhesive sensors say the sensor provides up to 168 hours of patient monitoring time, or up to 336 hours for sensors with a replaceable tape, on a single patient. The sensor site must still be inspected at least every eight hours.

Can a reusable DCI sensor be soaked in disinfectant?

No. Masimo's directions for the M-LNCS and LNCS DCI and DCI-P sensors say not to soak or immerse the sensor or connector in any liquid solution, and not to sterilize it by irradiation, steam, autoclave or ethylene oxide. Wipe it clean instead.
