Product Highlights:
-
Poly liner between two knit layers: The design places a polyurethane liner between two layers of soft knit fabric for comfort and prevention of heat loss.1
-
Made to reduce cranial heat loss: The hats are designed to decrease heat loss in ELBW and term infants in the critical early days of life, and can significantly decrease cranial heat loss, where most evaporative heat loss occurs.1
-
Holds its shape: The knit maintains the shape of the hat for a snug fit, and the snug fit minimizes movement and pressure on the head.1
-
Latex-free and DEHP-free liner: The polyurethane liner is latex free and DEHP free.1
-
Color coded by size: Color identifies the size at a glance, which matters when three sizes sit in the same supply drawer.1
-
Single patient use: A soft, skin-friendly two-ply knit hat intended for one patient.1
-
Three sizes across the range: Three sizes are available to accommodate ELBW infants to full term, color coded Size 1 blue stripes, Size 2 white, Size 3 pink and blue stripes.12

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a Preemie Beenie?
A poly-lined knit hat intended to decrease heat loss in pre-term and full-term infants.1 It is built with a polyurethane liner between two layers of soft knit, and it comes in three color-coded sizes.1
What size Preemie Beenie do I need?
Size 1 (45105, blue stripes) is for 25 weeks GSA or less, Size 2 (45205, white) for 25 to 28 weeks GSA, and Size 3 (45305, pink and blue stripes) for 29 weeks GSA or more.2 The size chart above lists all three.
What size is right for a 28 week infant?
Size 2 (45205) is for 25 to 28 weeks GSA.2 For an infant at the top of that range, check the fit on the head, because a hat that does not sit snugly will move.
Why do the sizes overlap at 25 weeks?
25 weeks GSA sits in both the Size 1 and the Size 2 range.2 At that boundary, follow unit protocol and choose the size by fit.
What is the hat made of?
A polyurethane liner between two layers of soft knit fabric.1
Is the Preemie Beenie latex free?
Yes. The polyurethane liner is latex free and DEHP free.1
Is it reusable?
No. It is single patient use.1 Do not launder it or reuse it on another patient.
How many are in a box, and are sizes mixed?
50 hats per box, one size per box.2 Sizes are ordered separately by part number.
Why does color identify the size?
Color is the size cue, so staff can pick the correct hat without reading a label.1 Size 1 is blue stripes, Size 2 is white, and Size 3 is pink and blue stripes.2
How is the Preemie Beenie different from the Baby Cap?
The Preemie Beenie is a poly-lined hat intended to decrease heat loss.1 The Baby Cap and Circuit Bumpers is a knit cap used with bumpers to hold a nasal interface in place during nCPAP or non-invasive ventilation. Different jobs, and some units stock both.
What is the companion product?
The companion product is the StatStrap Circuit Holder (49050, 50 per box).2
