Frequently Asked Questions:
What sizes do JollyPop pacifiers come in?
SandBox Medical makes JollyPop in Micro-Preemie, Preemie, Newborn and Plus+ sizes.1 Micro-Preemie is for babies born before 26 weeks or under 28 oz (700 to 800 g), hospital use only.4 Preemie is for premature babies of about 30 to 40 weeks gestational age or small for gestational age.5 Newborn is for babies without teeth, about 0 to 3 months.1 Pacific Biomedical carries the Micro-Preemie, Preemie and Newborn sizes.
What is a hospital-grade pacifier?
There is no single official hospital-grade label for pacifiers. NICUs and nurseries usually look for one-piece medical grade silicone, latex-free and BPA-free materials, the U.S. pacifier standard 16 CFR 1511, clean individual packaging and true NICU sizes. Every JollyPop size meets each of these points.21
What is a neonatal pacifier?
A neonatal pacifier is sized for premature and newborn babies in the NICU, nursery or mother-baby unit. JollyPop neonatal pacifiers come in true NICU sizes from Micro-Preemie up, in one-piece medical grade silicone with a low profile that fits CPAP and nasal cannulas.12
Does JollyPop fit with CPAP and nasal cannulas?
Yes. Every JollyPop size has a low, curved profile designed to fit CPAP, nasal cannulas and side-lying positioning without cutting or modification.1
Can hospitals buy JollyPop pacifiers wholesale or by purchase order?
Yes. JollyPop is sold in boxes of 100, and each size and color has its own product page.2 Order the sizes above online, or contact CustomerService@pacificbiomedical.com or 844.436.3526 for case quantities, facility pricing or a purchase order.
Why do hospitals switch to JollyPop?
In a SandBox Medical evaluation at 117 U.S. hospitals with 1001 nurse evaluations, 97.6 percent of responding nurses approved switching to JollyPop.7
What is the difference between Preemie and Newborn?
The Preemie has a smaller nipple and a tab-style handle. The Newborn has a loop handle with nubs and is recommended for most preemies going home.3
Can preemies use JollyPop at home?
Yes, if the baby's pediatrician or NICU caregiver recommends the Preemie size. Most preemies move to the JollyPop Newborn for home use.3
What is the difference between unscented and vanilla scented?
Only a light vanilla scent, from an FDA-approved vanilla essence added during manufacturing. The scent may last about 3 months.3
How do you clean and sterilize JollyPop? Can it be autoclaved?
Packaged JollyPops are clean and ready to use.1 To clean, wash in hot water with mild detergent and rinse. To sanitize, boil for 2 minutes and let cool, or use the top rack of a dishwasher or a home sterilizer.13 SandBox Medical states a single hospital autoclave cycle (12 to 20 minutes at 121 C) does not affect the pacifier, but repeated sterilization is not recommended.2
What safety warnings apply?
Never tie a pacifier around a baby's neck, never cut or modify it, and never attach anything to the rim or block the shield holes. Inspect before each use and stop if the baby can fit the whole pacifier in the mouth.13
How many pacifiers are in a box?
100 pacifiers per box, each individually poly-bagged clean and ready to use.2
Are JollyPop pacifiers latex-free and BPA-free?
Yes. JollyPop is 100 percent medical grade silicone and is phthalate-free, latex-free, BPA-free and DEHP-free. It is made in the USA.2
Is the JollyPop Preemie size available?
The Preemie teal (JP1304100) and blue (JP1307100) boxes are out of stock for now. Contact CustomerService@pacificbiomedical.com or 844.436.3526 for availability. The Micro-Preemie and Newborn sizes are available now; choose a size by SandBox Medical's size and age guidelines and your facility's pacifier policy.1
Which JollyPop sizes and colors does Pacific Biomedical carry?
Available now: Micro-Preemie teal (JP1300100), Newborn teal (JP1301100) and Newborn orange (JP1303100). Preemie teal (JP1304100), Preemie blue (JP1307100) and Newborn orange vanilla (JP1323100) are out of stock for now; contact us for availability. Each item is its own product page, sold in boxes of 100. SandBox Medical makes more colors, a Plus+ size and 25-count Preemie canisters; ask us if you need one.61
Who designed JollyPop?
Read McCarty, founder of SandBox Medical, designed JollyPop to give babies a soft pacifier that works with tubes and cannulas without cutting. It is protected by US Patent D691277S.6 SandBox Medical is now owned and operated by CHS USA Inc.
Is JollyPop a teether?
No. JollyPop pacifiers are for babies without teeth. The Plus+ size has a more durable nipple for babies beginning to teethe, but it is still not a teether.1
How long does a JollyPop last?
Replace after 3 months of use, or right away at the first sign of damage, tears or weakness. Inspect before each use by pulling in all directions.13
