Frequently Asked Questions:
What is an Israeli bandage?
It is the Emergency Bandage, the trusted original Emergency Bandage design, also known as The Israeli Bandage, sold as a trauma wound dressing and 6 in hemorrhage control bandage.1 It combines a sterile non-adherent pad, an elastic wrap, a pressure applicator and a closure bar in one package.1
How do you apply an Israeli bandage?
Place the pad directly on the wound or hemostatic dressing while keeping pressure, wrap the elastic bandage around the limb with short tugs, insert the wrap into the pressure bar, reverse it back over the bar to force the bar onto the pad, wrap tightly until the pad edges are covered, and secure the closure bar into the wrap.2 Then check circulation below the bandage.2
Israeli bandage vs tourniquet: when do you use each?
A pressure bandage is used for a bleeding wound in a location where a tourniquet cannot be applied.2 The FCP-02 can also be used to create an improvised tourniquet.1
Can you use an Israeli bandage over hemostatic gauze?
Yes. Place the pad directly on the hemostatic dressing or open wound; if the wound is already packed, keep direct pressure over the site and take care not to pull the gauze out while wrapping.2
How do you know if the bandage is too tight?
If the skin below the bandage becomes cool, bluish or numb, or the pulse below it is no longer present, the pressure bandage may be too tight; loosen and re-secure it.2
Should I get the 4 inch or 6 inch Israeli bandage?
The 6 in FCP-02 has a 6 x 9 in pad and a 65 in wrap for small, medium and large wounds, including large wounds and small area amputations.1 For a smaller kit, see the 4 in Emergency Bandage.
Does an Israeli bandage expire?
Yes. The FCP-02 has an 8-year shelf life, and sterility is guaranteed unless the package is opened or damaged.1 It is gamma sterilized and not made with natural rubber latex.1
What else can an Israeli bandage be used for?
Splinting, slings, head wraps and an improvised tourniquet, and the sterile packaging can be used as an improvised chest seal.1
Is this the genuine FCP-02 Emergency Bandage?
Yes. This is the new FCP-02 6 in Emergency Bandage, NSN 6510-01-492-2275, made by First Care Products and distributed by PerSys Medical.1 Pacific Biomedical supplies it new.
