How to Size an NIBP Cuff:
Measure arm circumference at the midpoint between the acromion (shoulder) and olecranon (elbow), then choose the cuff whose range covers that measurement.4 The cuff bladder should be 75% to 100% of the arm circumference in length and 37% to 50% in width; a cuff that is too small reads artificially high, and a cuff that is too large reads artificially low.4

Bladder and cuff size may differ by manufacturer.4 The AHA extra-large adult range reaches 52 cm; the thigh cuff in this line tops out at 50 cm.
How to Apply, Clean and Disinfect:
Apply: wrap the cuff around the upper arm so the index line falls between the range marks, align the artery arrow over the brachial artery, and press the hook-and-loop closure together; the cuff should be snug with room for two fingers. If the index line falls outside the range marks, use the next size.5
Clean and disinfect between patients:
- Fit the cuff wash plugs so no liquid enters the tubing, hose openings or valves.5
- Spray an enzymatic detergent (such as ENZOL or Cidezyme, mixed with distilled water) on the cuff, tubing and hose; let dried soil sit 1 minute.5
- Wipe with a soft cloth and use a soft-bristle brush on soiled or textured areas.5
- Rinse with plenty of distilled water.5
- Spray 10% bleach solution until the cuff is saturated and leave it for 5 minutes.5
- Wipe off the excess, rinse again with distilled water and let the cuff air dry.5
Do not immerse the tubing. The cuffs can be sterilized with ethylene oxide at a maximum of 50 C (122 F), followed by the sterilizer manufacturer's aeration period.5

Do these replace Welch Allyn REUSE, Philips or GE DURA-CUF cuffs?
