Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SWAN-LOCK® swabbable needle-free valve?
SWAN-LOCK® is CODAN's proprietary swabbable needle-free connector designed for disinfection compatibility with common agents (alcohol, chlorhexidine/alcohol). It eliminates the need for a separate access cannula and reduces needlestick exposure while maintaining a closed system during drug access, piggyback administration, or blood draw.
What is a check valve?
A check valve is a one-way flow control that allows fluid in one direction and blocks it in the reverse. In IV tubing, check valves prevent retrograde flow during piggyback medication delivery, IV push administration, or when lines at different heights could cause siphoning.
Is this valve disinfectable for repeated access?
Yes. Per INS and CDC guidelines, swabbable needle-free valves should be disinfected with an appropriate antiseptic (70% isopropyl alcohol or chlorhexidine/alcohol) for the duration specified by the manufacturer before each access. Follow your facility's line-access protocol.
Does this product contain latex?
No. CODAN sets and syringes are manufactured latex-free throughout the fluid path, consistent with current hospital safety standards.
Are these genuine CODAN products?
Yes. Pacific Biomedical stocks authentic CODAN US Corporation product. All items ship new in original CODAN packaging with full manufacturer warranty and QA documentation.
