Intersurgical i-view Disposable Video Laryngoscope, One Adult Size, 8008000

The Intersurgical i-view video laryngoscope, code 8008000, is a single use, fully disposable video laryngoscope with an integral LCD screen, a camera and LED light, and a Macintosh blade, supplied 2 per box.12 It comes in one adult size, is ready to use seconds after it leaves the package, and puts video laryngoscopy wherever you intubate: pre-hospital, emergency medicine, resuscitation, anesthesia, difficult airway and intensive care.12 Because the blade is a Macintosh, the same device also works for direct laryngoscopy.2 Pacific Biomedical stocks the i-view for EMS agencies, emergency departments, ICUs, surgery centers and dental and oral surgery offices.

Product Highlights:

  • One size, one code: One adult size, so there is no need to stock multiple sizes; code 8008000 is the only i-view code.12
  • Single use, fully disposable: Reduces the risk of cross infection and avoids reprocessing costs, with no batteries to remove before disposal.2
  • Ready in seconds: On/off switch; ready to use seconds after removal from the packaging.2
  • Familiar Macintosh technique: Insertion is more familiar and instinctive than with hyper-angulated blades, and the i-view also works for direct laryngoscopy.2
  • Integral LCD screen: Gives a view in a variety of light conditions, with a built-in camera and LED light.2
  • Five year shelf life: Shelf life is five years from the date of manufacture, with the expiry date on the device itself, which suits pre-hospital kits and difficult airway carts where use is infrequent.32
  • Protected for the bag or cart: Each device is individually packed in a rigid shell sealed with film for protection in transit and storage.2

What's Included:

  • 2 i-view video laryngoscopes, each individually packed in a sealed rigid shell2

Intersurgical's introduction to the i-view video laryngoscope:

The step-by-step i-view instruction video is on Intersurgical's i-view page. It shows the basic steps for use and does not replace the instructions for use.6

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the i-view video laryngoscope?

It is Intersurgical's single use, fully disposable video laryngoscope, with an integral LCD screen, a camera and LED light, and a Macintosh blade, so it supports video and direct laryngoscopy.12

What sizes does the i-view come in?

One adult size only. Intersurgical lists a single code, 8008000, supplied in boxes of 2, so there is no need to stock multiple sizes.12

Is the i-view reusable, and does it need a separate handle or monitor?

No. It is single use and fully disposable, with the screen built into the handle, and it is ready to use seconds after it comes out of the package.2 The on/off button must be held for more than 0.5 seconds to switch it off, which prevents accidental shut-off during use, and the device turns itself off after 20 minutes of continuous use.3 There are no batteries to remove before disposal, and there is no reprocessing.2

Is video laryngoscopy better than direct laryngoscopy?

In the DEVICE trial of 1,417 critically ill adults intubated in emergency departments and ICUs, first-attempt success was 85.1% with a video laryngoscope and 70.8% with a direct laryngoscope, with similar rates of severe complications.7 That trial tested video laryngoscopes as a class. For the i-view itself, the published evidence is small: a 2017 King's College Hospital conference poster of 30 adult surgical patients reported 86.7% first attempt success, a 2020 randomized controlled study in super-obese patients (BMI above 50 kg/m2) found safe and effective intubation, and a 2020 retrospective series of 20 COVID-19 patients reported 18 first pass intubations with no failures.3

Why a Macintosh blade instead of a hyper-angulated blade?

The Macintosh blade makes insertion more familiar and instinctive than with hyper-angulated devices, and it lets the same device be used for direct laryngoscopy.2 The Macintosh geometry also aligns the axes for tube placement at the cords, a bougie can still be used, and the screen lets an assistant guide external laryngeal manipulation.3

Is the i-view a good prehospital video laryngoscope for EMS?

It is built for pre-hospital, emergency medicine and resuscitation use: one size, ready in seconds, single use, and individually packed in a rigid shell that protects it in transit and storage.2 Its five year shelf life from the date of manufacture suits ambulances, aircraft and airway bags where the device may sit unused for long periods.3

Does a dental or oral surgery office need a video laryngoscope?

For deep sedation and general anesthesia, ADA guidelines require that the equipment and drugs needed for advanced airway management and advanced cardiac life support be immediately available.5 A single use video laryngoscope like the i-view is one option for that advanced airway equipment, giving a dental or oral and maxillofacial surgery office video laryngoscopy without buying a reusable system.2

Is the i-view sterile, latex-free and MRI safe?

It is not packaged sterile, it is not made with natural rubber latex, and it is MR Unsafe, so keep it out of the MRI room.4 The lot number and expiry date are on the top edge above the LCD screen.2

Is there a video showing how to use the i-view?

Yes. Intersurgical publishes two: a short introduction to the i-view, embedded above, and an i-view instruction video that walks through the basic steps for use and summarizes the key benefits.6 The instruction video is a guide and does not replace the instructions for use.6

Is this a genuine Intersurgical i-view?

Yes. This is the new Intersurgical i-view video laryngoscope, code 8008000, in the original box of 2.2 Pacific Biomedical supplies Intersurgical airway products.
