Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SpO2, SpCO, and SpMet?
SpO2 is oxygen saturation — the classic pulse-ox reading. SpCO is noninvasive carboxyhemoglobin, used to screen for carbon-monoxide exposure. SpMet is noninvasive methemoglobin, relevant to drug exposures like benzocaine, dapsone, and nitrites. The rainbow sensor measures all three from one sensor.
Why does this need a rainbow RC cable and not an M-LNC?
Rainbow sensors carry extra wavelengths for SpCO and SpMet measurement and use the 20-pin rainbow connector. Standard 14-pin M-LNC cables are SpO2-only and cannot transmit the rainbow data channels.
Can I use this on a standard pulse oximeter?
The rainbow sensor requires a rainbow-enabled device (Rad-57, Radical-7, or a monitor with rainbow SET). On a standard SpO2-only device it will only transmit oxygen saturation — you lose SpCO and SpMet capability.
