Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SpO2, SpCO, and SpMet?
SpO2 is oxygen saturation — the classic pulse-ox reading. SpCO is noninvasive carboxyhemoglobin, used to screen for carbon-monoxide exposure and poisoning. SpMet is noninvasive methemoglobin, relevant to certain drug exposures (benzocaine, dapsone, nitrites). This sensor measures all three from one application site.
Why does this need a rainbow RC cable and not an M-LNC?
Rainbow sensors carry extra wavelengths for SpCO and SpMet measurement and use the 20-pin rainbow connector. Standard 14-pin M-LNC cables are SpO2-only and cannot transmit the rainbow data channels.
How long can a single sensor stay on a patient?
This is a single-patient-use adhesive. Per Masimo's instructions for use, the site should be rotated per facility protocol, typically every 4 hours or sooner if skin integrity is a concern. Always follow the Masimo IFU and your agency policy.
